Guilin Weather

Spring is warm with some rain, building up towards May. On rainy days, the rivers, pinnacles and the city itself can be shrouded in mist, which is especially enchanting.

Summer can be hot and humid; most of the rain comes in June and July. But the beauty to be found out doors is quite adequate compensation. Autumn is a beautiful time to visit Guilin as the weather cools down. And it is sunny almost everyday because dry season starts in this season. Winter is cold and moist, especially in January, but can still be very pleasant when the sun is out. It snows occasionally. Winter is the off season of tourism so Guilin is less crowded and it is cheaper to travel.

The weather in January is the coldest and July is the hottest. Warm clothes are recommended for winter-wear, while in spring and autumn something like a light woolen sweater will be comfortable. T-shirts with skirts, shorts or slacks are the best choice for summer when it's quite hot and humid. It's always a good idea to prepare insect repellent in summer.

The optimum time to travel in Guilin is from April to October. But, try to avoid the golden week, National Day (1 October to 7 October), when all the people in China seem to come out and travel. Also Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) in January or February should also be avoided since more and more families take a trip rather than staying at home as before. At these times you can expect difficulties with hotel reservations, ticket booking and traffic conditions and prices are frequently much higher.
