Guilin is
a national key scenic city as well as a historical
and cultural city determined by the State Council.
Back in the Southern Song Dynasty, the sentence
of "Guilin's scenery is the best in the world”
is already famous at home and abroad. As a famous
poem says "The river is a green silk ribbon,
and the hills are jade hairpins", Guilin’s
landscape represented by Li
River and caves enjoys the reputation of "four
wonders" as green hills, clear water, odd
holes and beautiful stones. The urban scenery
that thousands of hills stand around the city
and a stream of water holds it has a unique charm
of King in the city and the city in view of. Marshal
Chen Yi wrote a poem as "willing to be a
person of Guilin, and not willing to be an immortal"
to praise it. In Han Yuanding six years (BC 111),
Emperor Wudi established a County named Shian
in the current land of Guilin, as the beginning
of the city of Guilin construction. There are
so many cultural relics and historic sites such
as the Zengpiyan Prehistoric Site, Qin Ling Canal,
Jingjiang Palace and the Ming Tomb, the Guihai
Forest of Steles on Cliff Stones, the Eighth Route
Army Guilin Office, the former residence of Li
Tsung-jen etc. All these monuments create a culture
ambience that viewing the mountains like enjoying
paintings and visiting the mountains like reading
histories.
Guilin is the perfect spot for those
planning to explore the northerly side of the
Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous
Region, with many quality tourist attractions
being just a stone's throw away. Directly south
of the city, the Silver Beach at Beihai is quite
awesome and very popular, as are the attractions
within Liuzhou - the most sizable city along the
Liu Jiang (Willow River). Also nearby is Guiping
and its plentiful recreational activities, which
are based around Xi Shan Park, and the colourful
histories of Longsheng,
Sanjiang,
