Unique Beauty Peak
Because the Peak of Unique Beauty looks
purple or gold in the haze of dawn and the glow of sunset,
it is also called Purple Hill. At its foot lies a castle
built in 1393 by Zhu Shouqian, first Prince of Jingjiang
and grandnephew of the founding emperor of the Ming
Dynasty, Zhu yuanzhang. On the eastern side of the hill
is a cave room, in which Yan yanzhi, a magistrate of
Guilin Prefecture during the Southern Dynasties (420-589),
used to read; on its western side is a spring known
as the Crescent.
